alternate title: Saturday - Part Two
When we came back from the woods, Martin went down to the Confederation Centre Craft Fair to demonstrate pottery-making (potting? potterying?) for the PEI Potters Studio.
I get the feeling, from observing and the couple of times I've tried it, that pottery is a very intuitive craft. Your body needs to understand the correct amount of pressure to apply, where, and for how long. It seems that the more you think about it, the bigger the mess.
Anyway, here is what the process is supposed to look like:
I tried my hand at it. I hope my cats enjoy eating out of their cat dish in the shape of a leaf with a hole in the bottom.
Some day (when school is done and this little girl finds another town with a pottery studio), I'd like to take a class or two.
Oh, how I long to make my own pottery. I imagine having glass doors (or no doors at all) on my kitchen cupboards and displaying my homemade plate and cup collection. Handmade soap dishes for handmade soap....dreamy. Thanks for the lovely photos of this fascinating craft.

Thanks for the photos and writeup! It is a lot of fun once you get past the initial learning curve. Once you start replacing all of your store bought things with home made pottery it's a great feeling. Also it's great for gifts! Functional Art!
