Dear Elsie,
Lest you think that having you has been all headache, craziness, and frustration for us, I would like to correct this misperception. You've been fun too. Now that you are doing so many grown up things that we take pleasure in (like laughing, playing, sloppy kisses and occasional hugs), I think back and wonder how we could have been filled with awe at all of the tiny steps you took to these along the way. For example, we loved it when you sneezed! That is such a small part of you now, although it is still really cute because your sneezes make you smile. You've got personality now. Sometimes we don't appreciate that personality, like when it keeps you from napping, but you've got it nonetheless. My favorite part of the 5th month has been how we've been able to turn pre-nap time into play time. Now that you can laugh it's very easy to turn your frustrated cries into gleeful giggles. So we often ease into naps with a tickle or two and some bouncing.
Now that we've started introducing you to the world of food, we're going to have fun seeing what goes down easy and what causes a sourpuss face. So far, pear, watermelon and apple have all come out as maybe not so great. However, rice cereal, almond butter, and applesauce are pretty alright. Hey, we like food! And we like coffee! But we'll have to wait a few more years before we fill up your mug.
