This picture was taken about a month ago. Unfortunately, when I try to take Arthur's picture now that he's 13 months old, they end up looking more like the one below.
He is so curious about the camera and wants to hit every button. This month has definitely seen us encountering Arthur's determination. He wants to do what he wants to do, and he will make you regret it if you say "no". On Arthur's one year birthday, he got his 8th tooth; he is almost certainly now working on one or two molars. He is much more confident in his walking and chooses to walk instead of crawl about 50% of the time. On top of climbing up the stairs, Arthur's really working on going down the stairs backwards and bumping.
A couple of weeks ago, Martin and I were talking about the words that Arthur uses. He was definitely working on "b" words because we were hearing "bump", "brrr", and an attempt at "bird" that sounded a lot like "brrr". One night recently, he was rolling around before falling asleep and I said "I love you", to which he seemed to try to reply the same. It was a string of sounds that matched "I love you" in syllables and tone. Arthur still says "meow meow" when the cats are around and "mwah" for kisses. Arthur gives love readily. Martin walked out the door one night and said "goodbye" to Arthur, at which point he blew Martin a kiss without any prompting. When we are down at his level he walks up to us to give us hugs and back kisses, and he loves to snuggle when he wakes up from naps.
Martin is still taking Arthur for morning walks, but sometimes they have to use the car when it's below -10. All the morning regulars know him by name at the coffee shop and Martin and Arthur have started staying at the coffee shop for about an hour instead of taking much longer walks. Arthur likes to walk around and smile at people there.
At his one year checkup that actually happened at the end of January he weighed 10.9 kg and was 78 cm long.
