This past month, Arthur has a had a couple of terrible colds, two trips to the Aquatarium in Brockville, an Easter weekend (in other words lots of chocolate), his first trip to the park as a toddler, a visit from grandparents, and he's finally been able to go walking outside. Arthur is loving being outside and often goes to the door to pick up his shoes and get the ball rollin'. When he goes outside, he likes to walk to the river to look at the geese, hang out in the playhouse, scoop up the dirt in the garden, and try to blow bubbles.
There are still no new teeth and we have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at which we will get his current weight and height.
Arthur can make lots of animal sounds and say the following words (in his own way): wet, that, dirt, broke, dropped, trip, book, dress, bird, ouch, uh-oh, teeth. He's even put some words together and said "that's wet" and "that's broke".
We've been listening to a lot of music and watching music videos. This is one of Arthur's favorite things to do and he definitely has some strongly preferred songs. We catch his dancing around occasionally which consists of him walking around in circles waving his hands and pumping his arms. Perhaps, and unfortunately, this is also how we could describe our own dancing.
Even though it it sometimes a struggle to convince Elsie to go outside (sometimes it surprisingly isn't though), she generally enjoys herself once she's out. She can get lost in a game and have fun on the play structure that we have. Her "go-to" game is preparing a meal for a birthday party and, I have to say this is my least favorite game for some reason. When I hear her say, "Mom, it's your birthday!", I think "again?". This may be because it involves me pretending to eat the food which she's prepared; this food is very dirty and not something I want to have so close to my mouth. I think one concoction was called "Dirt Worm Soup". The weather is a strong influence on Elsie's ability to be outside. Good Friday was a warm, breezy day, and when we were getting ready to go to the park Elsie wanted her coat on. Her grandma thought she wouldn't need it and as Martin was putting her hood up over head, she informed her grandma that she is "sensitive to the wind". I could not have described it better. She feels weather not just with her skin but with her emotions as well. But this reminds me of what I wanted to remember in particular about that trip to the park; when we were on our way back home, Elsie did a lot of gliding on her no-pedal bike. She was so competent and self-assured when she was doing it too. This was one of those moments when I looked at her and felt like she was doing a big kid thing. So, maybe we'll be getting a bike with pedals this spring, after all.
We've been repairing walls, painting, cleaning up the yard, and trying to continue with de-cluttering, in preparation for listing our house. I'm trying to wrap my head around how we are going to move all of the people and pets in this house as seamlessly as possible. I know it will really all boil down to timing and that's something I can't predict. Elsie says she's excited to move to a new home, for what that's worth. Martin and I are both looking forward to not having to drive so far for so many things. We're also daydreaming about how we'll spend some of our free time (when we have it) when we're in a place that has more to offer us. But for now, we will make the best of this place and this time. I've already decided to turn our veggie patch into a flowers-only garden this year and I'm looking forward to seeing again this summer that Bachelor Button/Cosmos mixture that blew my mind last year.
